But what about if you want your investment to consider environmental concerns, too? These concerns can be addressed when you choose to make an ethical investment. Ethical investing puts you in the driving seat with regards to the businesses in which you place your savings. Find out why companies and individuals in Yorkshire are choosing to invest ethically.

What is ethical investment?

There isn’t any firm definition of the “ethical” investment market, after all, it’s really down to the investor’s preferences. You may think the motor industry has seen its day, or perhaps that global brands using child labour are acting against your principles? In this respect, taking advice from ethical brokers, such as Eric Holt or Mark Munro here at City House Investors could inform your ethical investment decisions.

Wind farm investments in Yorkshire

Yorkshire investors will be delighted to learn that the wind farm sector in our county is taking off big time at the moment. We don’t just host lots of small land-based wind farms. The Hornsea One project, just 70 miles or so off our lovely coastline, has recently started generating electricity for the National Grid. The first wind turbine started operating in February 2019, and 174 turbines are planned in total. You’ll also be pleased to learn that the turbines are manufactured locally in Hull.

The Hornsea One project was launched by ORSTED, a partnership between DONG Energy and Global Infrastructure Partners. ORSTED is based in Denmark and plans two further Hornsea Projects, Two and Three. The current project is scheduled to produce electricity for up to one million homes. The other projects will have added capacity for 3GW. The turbines were built by Siemens at their Hull base, so this project is truly a feat of UK engineering.
